SumSwift Accountant Partner Program Terms

Last updated October 23, 2026.

These terms are an agreement between SumSwift Technologies Inc., a British Columbia corporation that runs SumSwift ("SumSwift", "we", "us"), and the accounting or bookkeeping firm or professional who joins the SumSwift Partner Program ("you" or "the partner"). They apply in addition to SumSwift's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If they conflict, these terms prevail for the Partner Program. By joining the program, you agree to them on behalf of your firm and confirm you have authority to do so.

1. Joining

  • The program is free. Firms and professionals who provide accounting, bookkeeping or tax services can join from sumswift.com/accountants.
  • You confirm that the information you give us about your firm is true, that you hold any licences or registrations your work requires, and that you'll keep them in good standing.
  • You get a partner link, client invitations, a client list, and access to the books of any client who shares them with you (to view, or to view and edit, as the client chooses).
  • We may decline an application, or end a partnership that breaks these terms, at our discretion.

2. Referred clients

A client counts as referred by you when either of these is true:

  • they open your partner link and, within 90 days, create a new SumSwift account in the same browser, and that account is less than 30 days old when the referral is recorded; or
  • they accept an invitation you sent them from SumSwift.

A referred client must be a genuine business that isn't already a SumSwift customer and isn't you, your firm, or a business you or your firm own or control. Each client can be referred by one partner only, and the first referral recorded counts. Clients who share their books with you without your link or invitation aren't referred clients. SumSwift's records decide whether a referral was made.

3. What you earn

  • Standard share: 15% of each Monthly plan payment a referred client makes (monthly or yearly), for as long as they stay a paying customer.
  • Founding partners: the first 100 firms to join earn 20% instead of 15% for 12 months from the day they joined, then 15%. Founding status is recorded automatically when you join and can't be transferred.
  • The share is calculated on what the client actually paid for the Monthly plan (including additional accounts), after refunds, credits, discounts and chargebacks, and before sales taxes. It doesn't apply to Catch-up payments, other one-time fees, free months, or plans your firm pays for (section 4).
  • If a payment is refunded or charged back after we've paid your share of it, we'll deduct it from your next payouts.
  • Earnings aren't guaranteed. They depend entirely on referred clients choosing to pay for SumSwift.

4. Paying for your clients

You can choose to pay for some clients' plans yourself. You're charged the Monthly price for each, less your share (so there's no separate payout for those clients), on the payment method your firm saves, under the billing terms in SumSwift's Terms of Service. If you stop paying for a client, they get 30 days to choose their own plan. Clients don't see what you pay, so you can bill them your own way.

5. Payouts

  • We pay monthly, for payments received in the month before, through Stripe, in Canadian dollars. To receive payouts you must set up and keep a Stripe account in good standing, and you agree to Stripe's terms for it, including the Stripe Connected Account Agreement.
  • Your share is recorded from the day a referred client first pays. Payouts start once Stripe payouts are set up for the program; anything earned before then is paid in the first payout.
  • Payouts under $25 CAD roll over to the next month. If your total is under $25 CAD when the partnership ends, we'll pay it in a final payout.
  • You're responsible for your own taxes, including any GST/HST or sales tax on your share. We may require tax information from you before paying (such as your business number, GST/HST number, or a US Form W-9) and may report payments to tax authorities (such as on a T4A or Form 1099-NEC). We may hold payouts until we have what we need.
  • If you think a payout is wrong, tell us within 90 days of it. After that, it's final unless the error was ours and is clear.

6. Your professional obligations

  • You're responsible for following the rules of your profession, licensing body and jurisdiction about referral fees, commissions and independence, including telling your clients that you receive a share from SumSwift when those rules require it. If a rule means you can't accept the share, tell us and we'll stop paying it.
  • Don't make claims about SumSwift beyond what's on our website, don't present yourself as SumSwift or as acting for SumSwift, and don't make promises on our behalf.
  • No spam, unsolicited messages that break anti-spam laws (including CASL), paid search ads that bid on the SumSwift name, or misleading promotions.
  • You're responsible for the advice and services you give your clients. SumSwift doesn't supervise or check your work, and you're not acting for SumSwift when you give it.

7. Client information and confidentiality

  • You see a client's books only if they choose to share them, with the access they choose. Clients can remove your access at any time.
  • Information you see in a client's books is that client's. You're responsible for it under your own professional and legal duties: keep it confidential, protect it with reasonable safeguards, and use it only to provide your services to that client.
  • You can see the name and email of people who signed up through your link before they share their books. Use them only to follow up on your own services to them, and stop if they ask.
  • Everyone at your firm who uses SumSwift must have their own login and keep it secure. If your firm requires two-step sign-in, everyone on your team needs it to see client books. Tell us at once if you think a login at your firm has been compromised.
  • Keep any non-public information SumSwift shares with you about the program or the product confidential.

8. Using the SumSwift name

While you're a partner, you may use the SumSwift name and the logos we provide only to say that you use and recommend SumSwift and to share your partner link. Don't change them, combine them with your own marks, or use them in a way that suggests SumSwift endorses your services. We may ask you to change or stop any use, and all use ends when the partnership ends.

9. Changes and ending

  • We may change the program, including the share on future payments, with at least 30 days' notice by email. We won't reduce a founding partner's 20% during their first 12 months, or take back amounts already earned (except under sections 3 and 5).
  • Either side can end the partnership at any time with notice. After it ends, we pay what you've earned, and your share on clients you already referred continues while those clients keep paying, as long as you keep a Stripe account for payouts.
  • We may end the partnership immediately and withhold unpaid amounts if you commit fraud (for example self-referrals, fake accounts or paying clients to sign up) or seriously breach these terms. In that case the share on existing clients stops too.
  • Sections 3 to 5 (for amounts earned), 7, 10 and 11 survive the end of the partnership.

10. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SumSwift's total liability to you under these terms is limited to the shares we paid you in the 12 months before the claim, and the disclaimers and limitations of liability in SumSwift's Terms of Service also apply. You'll indemnify SumSwift against third-party claims arising from your services to clients, your promotion of SumSwift, or your breach of these terms or of the rules of your profession.

11. General

You're an independent business, not SumSwift's employee, agent, franchisee or partner in any legal sense, and the program is not exclusive for either of us. You may not transfer these terms or your earnings without our written consent. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, with disputes going to its courts, as the Terms of Service set out. Contact: hello@sumswift.com.
